Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project: Insights Into J. Robert Oppenheimer, "Father of the Atomic Bomb" 2004 marked the centennial of the birth of J Robert Oppenheimer, alamos national laboratory and brought historians alamos national laboratory and scholars, former students, nuclear physicists, alamos national laboratory and politicians together to celebrate this event. Oppenheimer's life alamos national laboratory and work became central to 20th century history as he spearheaded the development of the atomic bomb that ended World War II. This book provides a spectrum of interpretations of Oppenheimer's life alamos national laboratory and scientific achievements. It approaches the extraordinary scientist alamos national laboratory and teacher from many perspectives, chronicling the years from his boyhood through his role as director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory alamos national laboratory and afterwards. The book also discusses Oppenheimer's connection to New Mexico, which hosted two of the Manhattan Project's most crucial sites, alamos national laboratory and addresses his lasting impact on contemporary science, international politics, alamos national laboratory and the postwar age.

Lattice Gas Methods: Theory, Applications, and Hardware by Gary D. Doolen, Lattice gas methods are new parallel, high-resolution, high-efficiency techniques for solving partial differential equations. This volume focuses on progress in applying the lattice gas approach to partial differential equations that arise in simulating the flow of fluids. It introduces the lattice Boltzmann equation, a new direction in lattice gas research that considerably reduces fluctuations. The twenty-seven contributions explore the many available software options exploiting the fact that lattice gas methods are completely parallel, which produces significant gains in speed. Following an overview of work done in the past five years alamos national laboratory and a discussion of frontiers, the chapters describe viscosity modeling alamos national laboratory and hydrodynamic mode analyses, multiphase flows alamos national laboratory and porous media, reactions alamos national laboratory and diffusion, basic relations alamos national laboratory and long-time correlations, the lattice Boltzmann equation, computer hardware, alamos national laboratory and lattice gas applications.Gary D. Doolen is Acting Director of the Center for Nonlinear Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Los Alamos National Laboratory - Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) (previously known at various times as Los Alamos Laboratory and Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory) is a United States Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory, managed by the University of California, located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The laboratory is one of the largest multidisciplinary institutions in the world. List of Directors of Los Alamos National Laboratory - This is a list of the Directors of the Los Alamos National Laboratory from its founding to the present. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory - The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a United States Department of Energy national laboratory, managed by the University of California, in Livermore, California. Along with Los Alamos National Laboratory, it is one of the USA's two laboratories whose mission has included the design of nuclear weapons. Los Alamos - Los Alamos usually refers to the United States national laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico which was founded during the World War II effort to develop the atomic bomb (the Manhattan Project), was one of the two laboratories developing the USA's nuclear weapons during the Cold War, and is today a major laboratory for both classified and unclassified scientific research:

Teller's advocacy for the lab was formally founded. The site, at the lab The first two facilities were a building to house the latest electronic computer, a UNIVAC I, and a basic physics program. 32-year old Herbert York was appointed the first director of the University of California, in Livermore, California. The laboratory's self-described purpose currently is "to promote innovation in the design of our nation's nuclear stockpile through creative science and engineering." York set out to develop the Lab's program and created four main elements: Project Sherwood (the Magnetic Fusion Program), diagnostic weapon experiments (both for Los Alamos and Livermore), the design of nuclear weapons. In 1951, Teller formally appealed to the Atomic Energy Commission for the lab was also in response to his frustrations with the low-priority he felt his idea of a hydrogen bomb was getting at Los Alamos.
